Café Visionaire is the culinary hot spot of the moment with an inclusive employment policy. An impressive collection of characters are on work placements and hope to gain long-term employment. Doors to Elsewhere in their inimitable performance style explore the highways and byways of the promise of a job.

Doors to Elsewhere is an inclusive theatre ensemble for adults with intellectual disabilities living in South Dublin County. Established by Tallaght Community Arts in 2011, our weekly workshops enable our performers to develop their creative potential in acting, movement, spoken word, music and devising. Our performances are original, devised works collectively created by the participants. All of the artists perform, but they are also the writers, directors and designers of the work.

Doors to Elsewhere has produced memorable performances that include: The Dinner Party a live dinner at Civic Theatre (2013), Can’t See The Wood for the Trees a performance/ installation in Gallery 1 Rua Red (2017). 

Doors to Elsewhere have been exploring via practical workshops, their personal experiences of ‘work placements’ and, the challenge they face trying to find permanent work as adults with disabilities. The work in progress engages audiences in an interrogation of the many stereotypes and misconceptions surrounding the lives of disabled people. The resulting performance is a large-scale cabaret-style production; Café Visionaire.
