The ‘’Cupán ceoil Tea Dances’’ project will integrate elements of social outings, music, dance, crafting and food to promote positive mental health and social connection amongst older adults. This project incorporates the recommendations and suggestions of participants involved in the ‘’Reconnect Communities’’ project to further develop themes of memory, reminiscence, shared experiences and the joys of music and movement.

The project will target older adults, specifically those with lower educational attainment and those who live in socio-economic disadvantage. A specific effort will be made to target those who are isolated and do not have frequent engagement with existing community groups. The role of Galway Contact, Cope Galway and Age Action Galway will be integral to engagement with harder to reach communities.

The core of the project will focus on monthly tea dances in three communities in Galway City. These very special events incorporate a short reminiscence crafting session, refreshments, live music and dancing. Groups will explore living memories through storytelling, shared life experiences and through multi-sensory exploration.
