Creativity in Nature with Strokestown Women's Shed
Open Call Strand 2: Creative Climate Action/Heritage/Biodiversity Collaboration supports this project.
Marianne Fallon is a Chartered Health Psychologist will bring the members of Strokestown Women's shed on a journey of exploration of creativity in nature through a series of 6 sessions in the woodlands and gardens of Strokestown House, incorporating a number of creative modalities including expressive arts (green sketching), nature journaling (use of words to respond to experiences in nature), rhythm making and movement (use of bodhrans and movement exploration) and exploration of natural materials to facilitate creativity (nature mandalas, sensory experiences). These sessions will be used to support creative exploration and expression within the group, with a focus on somatic and non-verbal experiences within the woodlands, using the natural environment to stimulate ideas and freedom of expression. Through responding to experiences in nature, creativity can be encouraged, moving away from the traditional artistic settings. In doing this, it is hoped that participants can reduce creative inhibition and stimulate direct authentic artistic expression, with a focus on the process rather than an ideal 'outcome'. Each participant will be encouraged and supported to keep an artistic record of their experiences through the series and to be encouraged to reflect on the meaning of these experiences. Each session will close with Yin yoga.
