Creative Caltragh is an outdoor early-years visual art & biodiversity project based in Caltragh Community Centre. Caltragh Community Centre which is centrally located within Caltragh Crescent Housing Estate has been subjected to many years of neglect and vandalism and the outside space has subsequently fallen into serious decline. Despite the wonderful efforts of the staff of Sligo Springboard Family Support Service to make this outdoor space appealing and stimulating for the early years children that attend the pre-school, the ongoing lack of finances has seriously stifled their efforts. Many residents of this housing estate experience social and economic disadvantage which in turn often prohibits them from accessing and engaging in creative activities. The creation of a visually and sensory engaging creative space for the children and families in Caltragh Community Centre would be such a wonderful addition to this area and would provide local children and their families with an equal opportunity to be creatively engaged within their own locality. This partnership between the LCYP, Sligo Springboard Family Support Service and Sligo Artists Network will develop stronger links between the arts, cultural & heritage sector and the voluntary & community sector in Sligo and will specifically and most importantly ensure that children and the families in the Caltragh area have equal access to quality and engaging creative experiences.
