Corrib Kids coding at Roscommon Libraries
Corrib Kids introduce children aged 8-14 to the world of creative technology using a variety of formats in a half day workshop at their local library.
Children build 4-5 robots with Lego, connect them to the computer via Bluetooth and code them to carry out various tasks using lights, sounds, sensors, and motors. We also
build an electric car and describe alternative energy sources and how they benefit our environment and enhance our daily lives.
They also program a microbit device to animate, send text messages, play sounds, and sense
movement. The children will code a FITBIT and a fitness dice which we will use to promote the
importance of health and wellbeing for mind and body. We program the device to count steps in a fun game. They will code a video game about saving our oceans, learn about how we can all play our part in recycling.
Children will then design their own 2D character and world using pixel art. They learn the basics of block coding by using blocks to move a character around the maze to collect coins and earn a
score each time. This game they create is published and they can access it at home to show
parents and friends.
