Galway Music Residency (GMR) will visit up to four long term care facilities in County Galway, hosting a musical engagement event with members of ConTempo Quartet at a frequency of once a week. Joining members of ConTempo will be a mixture of classical, jazz, folk and contemporary music artists drawn from a wide range of collaborators working regularly with Galway Music Residency.

GMR aims to provide Galway audiences with opportunities to engage meaningfully with music, particularly those who may not have the access or opportunity otherwise, and to reach new audiences through cross-genre initiatives and collaborations.

The project will support positive aging and help alleviate social isolation by bringing a world renowned string quartet to give a special performance to residents in long term care facilities in county Galway. The events will act as focal points for gathering, socialising and enjoying live music together. It will provide access to high-quality music, including new music recently composed, that offers new forms of creative engagement with music and sound. There have been studies that claim there are a number of benefits from listening to classical music, including a boost in memory and creativity, and mood improvement
