Connacht Fleadh and Festival Ballina 2023

The Connacht Fleadh and Festival Ballina 2023 will be an opportunity to showcase the best of traditional music in Mayo. It wipromote the tradition amongst our young people and foster pride of culture and place and be a major cultural tourism attraction. The event will include the usual Connacht Fleadh Competitions, bringing competitors to the town from all over the province, and an influx of traditional music enthusiasts. Local musicians will be featured in concert with an array of headline acts including the Mayo Teenage Trad Ensemble, the Music Generation Harp Ensemble, the Máirtín Ó’Connor trio, Céile with the Swallows Tail céile band, Celtic Storm from Ards CCÉ in Co. Down, workshops with Bríd Harper and Dermot Byrne, and some of the best of our own musicians from the county Angela Deane, the Tiernan family and of course the Bofield CCÉ senior Grúpa Cheoil. Paddy Joe Tighe, Darren Regan and others will showcase the best of sean-nós singing, dancing and scéalaíocht from the Ceathrú Thaidhg Gaeltacht. The Bonniconlon Drama Society will perform a pageant in the Jackie Clarke Museum, based on the Great Famine in Bofield, as performed at the opening of the Hunger Museum in Manhattan in 2002. Mary Gallagher, grandniece of Éamonn Ceannt, one of the leaders of the Easter 1916 rising, will give a lecture on his life and commitment to the Irish tradition and to playing his uilllean pipes which will be on display.
