The Children's Book Festival is one of Ireland's biggest arts festivals, with hundreds of free events celebrating children's books happening nationwide in bookshops, libraries, schools, community and arts centres. The Festival places a major focus on children's books and emphasises the message that reading is fun, enjoyable, stimulating and inclusive.

The Festival takes place annually in October. This year, in conjunction with Creative Ireland, Mayo County Library will run an extended festival with over 100 events ranging from author visits, puppet shows, robotics, magical storytelling and coding to loads of competitions, games and other activities.
