Cairde na mBeach Friends of the Bees

Laois Bee Keeping Society will create a contemporary visual art installation which reflects the tradition of beekeeping in Ireland and our native flora and fauna. Their aim is to encourage and complement the environment of their new association apiary, which is set just within walking distance of the community in Abbeyleix.

The concept of their art installation is to use their storage container as a canvas for artist Aileen Donovan to create a piece of art (St. Gobnait) to depict the importance of beekeeping in Irish heritage and the custom of Telling the bees. Beekeeping is such an important component of our wildlife. Bees are an essential part of the biodiversity that we need to survive and are necessary as an essential pollinator.

This project will be completed in September 2024 and will be accessible to the public.
