Behind the Curtain
Behind The Curtain is a unique creative project aimed at exploring the life experiences of Penny Dinners' clientele through the art of theatre. This project focuses on learning the production process while creating a new work, culminating in a performance at the Cork Arts Theatre.
Participants will engage in 6 creative writing workshops and 6 improvisation workshops, using verbatim theatre techniques and exploring the methods of Augusto Boal and Viola Spolin. The project's final outcome, whether a 'work-in-progress' or a full performance, will be decided by the participants, emphasising their role in crucial production decisions and enhancing their learning experience. The project is led by Marion Wyatt, a seasoned theatre professional with over 50 years' experience as a producer, director, and playwright. Marion’s extensive background in Drama & Theatre Studies and her work with the High Hopes Drama Group provides a solid foundation for this initiative. The High Hopes Drama Group aims to offer individuals impacted by homelessness, addiction, mental health struggles, poverty, or loneliness the chance to immerse themselves in the world of drama, fostering creativity, confidence, and community.
Behind The Curtain is an inclusive project, welcoming both Penny Dinners' clients and volunteers. Participants will learn to harness creative tools, taking a project from idea to completion, with the goal of empowering them to create their own future projects and pass on their knowledge.
