Avista County Folk and Heritage Memories
Avista County Folk and Heritage Memories Art via Music will be delivered by Niamh Kenny, creative musician and music therapist in collaboration with service users at Avista Riverview Support Services. The focus of the project is on traditional music and songs that are associated with Offaly and Offaly’s heritage. This project will be delivered through both music and song taking into consideration works from many artists that have links to the Offaly such as Liz Carroll, T Nestor Tinnamuck, John Brady, Johnny Mc Evoy (from Banagher wrote The Ballad of John Williams and long before your time) James Brophy, Frank Sweeney ( writer of Lyrics Offaly Rover), James Lynam Molloy ( Writer of Just a song at Twilight) and more recent music such as Jim Jam, Edmond Enright, and Simon Casey. It is anticipated that the project will be draw to a close on the grounds of Birr Castle and also in Bir Theatre and Arts Centre culminating with a group of the participants performing what they have learned in a local heritage setting.
