glór’s Artist to Artist Mentoring scheme supports Clare-based artists by pairing them with an artist they admire, with the aim of developing and strengthening their craft.

glór has initiated three rounds of artist mentoring since December 2020 with 26 pairs of artists supported to date. Artists apply through a simple submission with a nominated artist to act as mentor for them over a period of 3/4 sessions which can be spread timewise to suit the focus and needs of each set of artists. Both mentor and mentee are paid for the sessions. The mentee must be Clare based – the mentor can be based anywhere and the sessions can be done in person/remotely.

glór selects the artists based on their match, engagement with the concept, and their needs. We encourage each pair of artists to set goals and themes for their conversations, so that it is a structured exchange, which may focus on particular skills, techniques or challenges that the mentee faces.  In 2023, career coaching will be offered along with mentoring.  

Outcomes of Artist-to-Artist Mentoring include:

• Knowledge and skill exchange for artists
• Coaching, listening and feeling supported – possibly leading to improved mental health.
• New support networks for artists
• New collaborations, ideas and inspirations fuelling artists
