Art for Change stage 2
Targeted with groups in schools not for advertising.
The Art of Change initiative is a vital part of the Arts Office’s Climate Action programme, aimed at encouraging young people to creatively explore environmental and climate issues through art. This programme seeks to inspire youth and deepen their awareness that environmental care can be approached in various ways, highlighting the significant impact of our actions.
By discovering new art processes and techniques, participants gain a sense of empowerment and understand that their choices and actions matter. The initiative offers young people an alternative way to engage with these crucial topics, providing hands-on experiences that can profoundly influence how they perceive and value their environment, nature, and natural resources.
The programme includes a bespoke series of workshops at two youth centres and four schools. In the school workshops, each artist will work with the same group of students over four visits, fostering deeper connections and continuity in learning. At the youth centres, young people will work with different artists each week, focusing on various mediums and materials. This approach allows them to develop their skills and gain confidence in different creative methods.
All workshops will also explore the artists' own practices and preferred material choices, naturally fostering awareness and discussions around environmental issues and the choices we can make to reduce our impact on the planet.
