Focusing on the theme of Irish birds, this biodiversity project entitled Ag Giolcaireacht (Twittering) will see the Tomhaggard Women’s Shed form a choral ensemble. Exploring the themes of birds and nature, the group will learn several traditional and contemporary songs in the Irish language that deepen their understanding of the contribution birds make to the biodiversity of the area. Working with Tomhaggard Clean Coast Group, the women will draw from local stories that connect to birds in marine environments, and contribute to the composition of two original songs in the Irish language. Additionally, the group will develop spoken word narratives as Gaeilge, that will be woven into the new compositions. 

To celebrate The Tomhaggard Women’s Shed’s tenth anniversary on 5th June 2025 which is also World Environment Day, the group will perform their work in a public concert. More details to follow.

Ag Giolcaireacht is one of Creative Ireland Wexford’s six Irish Language projects for 2025, meeting our strategic priority to ‘promote the love and use of the Irish language in our community’.
