Cavan

County Cavan is a haven for culture and creativity, boasting a collaborative and community-minded approach to the development of the arts that has produced such notable figures as 18th-century poet Cathal Buí Mac Giolla Ghunna ("Yellow Cathal McElgunn") and, more recently, celebrity chef and author Neven Maguire.

Part of a former Gaelic kingdom, Cavan’s dedication to heritage and the passion and energy of its community has produced a Creative Ireland Culture and Creativity Strategy that builds upon Cavan’s rich cultural legacy to creatively encourage and engage citizens of all ages, creeds and backgrounds.

A highlight of Cavan’s impressive array of initiatives is ‘Scéalta Dár Talamh’ (Irish for ‘stories of our land’), a one-day event at Ballyhaise Agricultural College that brings together some of the finest local artists and musicians in an expression of appreciation for the landscapes of the county.

Cavan’s dedication to heritage and the passion and energy of its community has produced a Creative Ireland Culture and Creativity Strategy that builds upon Cavan’s rich cultural legacy.
