New Creative Youth Plan will continue to support Youth Theatre Ireland to provide access for young people in 2023

Youth Theatre Ireland’s vision is to provide access to youth theatre for every young person in Ireland and to empower young people through youth theatre.

Youth Theatre Ireland is the national development organisation for youth theatre. They support a network of youth theatres who deliver year-round programmes of drama workshops and performance opportunities to young people in communities across Ireland.

Youth Theatre Ireland is committed to youth-centred drama practice that works to improve outcomes for young people by supporting their creative, personal and social development.

Currently there are 56 youth theatres across 25 counties, reaching 2,700 young people.

Under the first Creative Youth Plan, partnership with Youth Theatre Ireland has supported:

  • The development of youth theatres in underserved areas;
  • Enhanced youth theatre recruitment;
  • Implementation of a wellbeing programme for young people and leaders;
  • The delivery of an Employee Assistance Programme reaching 350 youth theatre leaders; and
  • Accredited training to leaders.

Following on from successful involvement in Cruinniú na nÓg in 2022, Youth Theatre Ireland will once again offer free workshops for young people during the 2023 event to encourage new people to engage with youth theatre.

Further support in 2023 will focus on expanding access to youth theatre, particularly for seldom heard children and young people, continued QQI accredited training for facilitators and support to the National Youth Theatre Programme.
