Making Hay Reminiscence Theatre - Fingal Schools Project
Making Hay Reminiscence Theatre promotes the engagement of older people with dementia and their family members or carers to be involved in the performing arts through reminiscence theatre and through intergenerational activities which promote enjoyment, engagement and entertainment for both older and younger people involved in this form of drama.
It is proposed to further develop the project and disseminate it to a wider audience by bringing memory theatre to schools in Fingal through the use of drama, workshops and seminars. The aim is to create awareness and understanding of dementia and to provide a creative forum and give a voice to the many older people who live with dementia in the local community. The project adopts a community wide approach by introducing school children to the art of memory theatre and to provide an opportunity for people with dementia, their carers and school children to befriend each other and to understand the importance and value of having people with dementia to remain and live in their own community.
The overall objective is to engage both older and younger people in this project with a vision of respect and valuing older people with dementia to live with dignity and to maintain their social connections through a school based approach to understanding about dementia in a fun, creative and educational way through the use of drama.
