The Maria Edgeworth Literary Festival was established to promote the rich literary and cultural heritage associated with the area, and it achieves this by promoting creative writing among all ages, groups, and across all genres.

The festival also consists of a heritage walk and an Edgeworth Garden Fete, with a competition for second level students. A local ecologist will facilitate a family nature walk at Glen Lake. In addition, a performance will take place by Mostrim Youth Players of 'The Lady of the Fertile Ridge', written by local writer, Pauline Flood.
