Creative Rathangan - Meitheal 2019
For 2019 Creative Rathangan - Meitheal propose to deliver a programme of work from June to November, which includes a series of workshops and seminars to benefit the local schools and community.
Four days of workshops will be led by environmentalist Michael Jacob and artist Monica De Bath, entitled Who Else Lives Here?. They will be working with local national schools and children will be working outdoors, where they will be encouraged to observe and get to know the creatures that live in the area. They will then research these creatures and their life cycles, making drawings along the way and creating their own imaginary creatures and habitats. This work will then be put on display for their schools, families, and the general public to observe. This project will combine environmental and scientific studies with the creativity of art, to get children to become actively engaged with and more appreciative of their surrounding environment.
A series of seminars and walks/re-enactments have also been planned with Laurence Fullam, Michael Jacob, and Monica De Bath. These will be open to the public and will focus on local history and environmentalism. For example Healing the Wound, a seminar examining the history of Sphagnum moss and its medicinal qualities, which will be accompanied by a walk in which participants will recreate the process of gathering and making WW1 wound dressings.
Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
