This project is to develop a new and original piece of bilingual theatre for children, in order to encourage them to speak and enjoy the Irish language. 'An Lasairéan' is show which incorporates the Irish language, music, humour, movement and dance to tell the story of a young bird who has been forced to leave his homeland. On his way to find a new home he gets separated from his family and ends up on a farm in Ireland, where he learns about Irish culture and shares his own heritage with the local animals. The story touches on themes of cultural diversity and acceptance as well as the issue of climate change, as the flamingo's lagoon home dried out due to changing temperatures.

The show is aimed towards primary school children aged 8+ and will be written with support and input from local schools and youth theatre groups through a number of workshopping days. There will be one week of research and development rehearsals with professional artists, with a progress/development showing at the end entitled An Lasairéan, A work in progress showing of a new theatre show for young audiences. The rehearsal week and showing will also be recorded through video and photography.
