Hear Our Call

The future of Ireland’s wildlife relies on the collective action of informed communities. The Hear Our Call project aims to educate primary school students in Cork City about three birds under threat due to habitat loss: the Swift, the Swallow, and the Robin. Students will learn about these birds, their habitats in Cork City, and the reasons they are endangered. They will listen to recordings of each bird’s call and practice mimicking them in the classroom.

In a facilitated workshop, students will draw pictures of the birds, using a wide range of colours to celebrate the beauty these creatures bring to Cork’s landscape. These drawings will be scanned and compiled into a slideshow, which will be projected onto a city-centre building window on Culture Night, making it visible to passersby.

Call 1: Through the bird call recordings, the birds are calling for biodiversity protection.

Call 2: Through their drawings, the students are calling for their future, emphasising the need to act on climate change for future generations.

This projection serves as a form of art activism, using bright visuals and sounds to capture attention and encourage people to think about biodiversity in Cork City. The project’s message is clear: act now to protect biodiversity and secure a better future for the next generations.
