Sunday Nights at the Lido

The Lido Cinema, opened in 1920, holds a special place in local Blackpool residents' hearts. Closed since 1965, its legacy as a community gathering space endures. The Lido is now home to Cork Community Art Link, which aims to honour its history while building a vibrant hub that fosters connections, combats loneliness, and enriches lives.

A monthly film night in 2025 will create a welcoming environment for elderly and migrant communities, encouraging people to come together, forge friendships, and engage with one another. The programme will resonate with the audience's experiences and reflect the community's interests, including film classics, shorts, documentaries, and culturally significant pieces. By re-introducing the joy of cinema and facilitating discussions about diverse narratives, the project aims to foster shared knowledge and experience.

This initiative promises to develop a deeper sense of community in Blackpool by making the Lido a monthly gathering place for film screenings that honour Blackpool’s heritage and create a vital space for social interaction, community bonding, and cultural exploration.
