Land War - A Longford Story
‘Land War’ is new documentary project that delves into one of the most transformative periods in Irish history. Our approach mirrors our previous work, aiming to tell a local story that encapsulates broader societal struggles, providing both a microcosmic and macrocosmic perspective on this critical chapter of Irish resistance and reform.
The focal point of this documentary will be the remarkable story of Thomas Rogers in Derawley, Drumlish, County Longford. In 1881, an attempted eviction at Rogers’ home became a flashpoint for the community. Hundreds of local residents banded together to thwart the eviction, physically blocking the Royal Irish Constabulary (RIC) and British Army forces from reaching the house. This dramatic moment of resistance speaks volumes about the solidarity, defiance, and ingenuity of ordinary people facing systemic oppression. By focusing on this vivid and historically significant episode, we aim to draw viewers into the human stakes and emotional intensity of the Land War.
This project will have a strong local community basis driven by "Harp Media". This years focus will be on story and script development. It will involve many local community groups including experienced heritage and historical groups to creatively help bring this important piece of history and culture to life.
