Seniors Telling Stories
The goal of Seniors Telling Stories is to not only provide participants with an opportunity to feel heard and valued but to also share their stories with the wider community. Once the script is written with their collaboration, the story will be produced as an audio drama and given to the participants to listen to, preserving their memories and giving a voice to those who often feel forgotten.
The project will begin with an introduction to each participant, where I will learn about their background, life experiences, and interests. It’s essential to create a comfortable, trusting environment where participants feel safe and valued. Conversations will be informal and engaging, helping to stimulate their memories and inspire ideas for the story. This will be a collaborative effort, where they help shape the narrative based on their own experiences. The story can either be a direct reflection of their lives, or an entirely fictionalised version that incorporates elements from their personal history. The aim is to create something that feels authentic to their experiences but also engaging for an audience.
This project is about offering elderly individuals in rural areas an opportunity to feel valued, heard, and connected. By engaging them in a creative endeavour that draws from their own life stories, we can provide a meaningful experience that combats isolation, enriches the local culture, and preserves their memories for future generations.
