2024 Choral Participation

Wicklow County Council has placed the support of Community Choral Activation as a key priority within the Strategic Plan for Creative Communities under the Creative Ireland Programme. This programme offers a range of programmes needed to support the development of choral music in the county. This work is supported by a choral development policy which focuses on citizen engagement in creativity through choral participation.  It is an inclusive programme which focuses on community integration and wellbeing. From youth choirs to those with a membership over 55+ and other general age ranges, choirs in County Wicklow are an invaluable mechanism for creative expression and can be found in every corner of Wicklow.  The programmes foundations are rooted in the principles of access and supported by a vast array of research which amongst other things evidence that people who participate in a choir enjoy a greater feeling of togetherness and being part of a collective endeavor than others involved in different social activities.

Key priorities of the Strategy include the creation of a countywide choral network, support for local choral events and festivals, and the advancement of choral music practitioners and increasing membership of singers.
