An inclusive arts project in the three primary schools of Rathdrum County Wicklow led by Wicklow Arts Office in partnership with Music Generation and working through themes of local heritage, place and belonging.  Children in 4th and 5th classes of Rathdrum BNS, Our Ladies GNS and St Saviours schools will work with poet and spoken word artist Colm Keegan who will work with children in the classroom exploring the themes and co-creating new work with them.  Music Generation Wicklow will then lead workshops with a composer and a team of musician educators to support the children to set their words to music and equip them to present this work for performance as part of Cruinniu na Og 2025. 

This project is developed in response to Creative Ireland’s commitment to fund projects with creative engagement in communities with a longer participation focus for projects that work with children in areas of the county where access to creativity and the arts would be limited.  Rathdrum is a community identified by the Pobal Deprivation Index as having significant need.  The population is growing and is increasingly diverse.  The project will lead to an inclusive and vibrant community celebration for Cruinniu na nOg by the young people in their town.  This follows a successful Climate Action Music Composition Project commissioned under this scheme in 2024.
