Irish Speaking Artists - Focus Group
Wexford’s Creative and Cultural Strategy states that it will ‘provide support for projects that promote the love and use of the Irish language in our community’. In order to do this better, groundwork with communities of Irish speakers is being developed.
This bi-lingual session will bring together 14 Irish speaking artists and creatives living and working in County Wexford. Through discussion, the group will share their experience of the barriers they currently face to making creative work in Irish in Wexford. They will explore opportunities to develop collaborative projects that promote creative ways for people to speak, think and feel in Irish.
Cill Dara le Gaeilge will present to the group on its efforts to develop the language in a county that, like Wexford, does not have a Gaelteacht area.
The session will enable Creative Ireland Wexford to understand the issues these artists face when making work in the Irish language, and what needs are to be met if impactful investments are to be made. Growing this network is groundwork for Creative Ireland Wexford’s 2025 programme, when specific funding for Irish language projects will be made available.
Refreshments will be served.
