Young Songwriters' Showcase

The Young Songwriters' Showcase event has been running for the past 7 years. It is run in conjunction with the Teenage Theme Night programme which last year included almost 150 local teenage musicians. 16 original songs were written for this event in 2023 and teenagers had the opportunity to perform them with each other in a professional theatre environment for their peers and others. It culminated with this video and song based on Knocknarea and the story of An Táin Bo Cualinge.

The intention for the upcoming academic year (2024-25) is to work with Creative Ireland and our cohort of teenagers in expanding this Young Songwriters' Showcase.

We would hope to firstly provide a series of workshops and masterclasses to the teenagers, at the start of the academic year, educating them in song writing and performance, but also in an appreciation of Sligo's landscape and how climate change is affecting it.

Students will be then encouraged to write songs inspired by Sligo's landscape and the dangers of climate change, culminating in a performance in the Hawk's Well Theatre. This process will be inclusive, advertised broadly and open equally to members of our programme and non-members alike.

Finally one of these songs will be selected, performed by a large group of teenage musicians, recorded by our team of professionals and released on our platforms.

Please note that the details of events listed above are provided by the relevant Local Authorities.
