Art Therapy Sessions for women living on the Eastside of Galway City
Art Therapy is a tool used to help individuals to interpret and express emotions or feelings. It can help participants to work through their thoughts and reach new understandings about themselves. Art Therapy is about the process, engaging with the materials and is ultimately not about ‘how good’ the finished art piece is. With the focus being placed squarely on the process, Art Therapy is open to everyone, regardless of ability or skill.
Ballybane Library will host a series of Art Therapy sessions. Each block of Art Therapy sessions will be tailored to encompass different groups of women that make up Galway City Eastside Community. Ballybane is a vibrant community with a strong Traveller population, as well as lifelong residents and an ever-growing multicultural community. We propose that each block of Art Therapy sessions will use different art techniques and mediums and will result in participants having a physical memento of their creative journey.
Each Art Therapy session will be focused on different topics or themes. Themes identified include sessions dealing with:
- Journalling - Techniques for good Mental Health
- Finding Yourself
- Grief and Loss
