Umoja - Let's Connect
The African Scholars Association of Ireland (AFSAI) is partnering with the Irish Institute of Music and Song (IIMS) to host a series of events in October and November 2024. These events are designed to foster creativity, promote migrant well-being, and encourage community integration. Through these activities, participants will gain access to opportunities for exploring individual and group creative expressions, with a particular focus on African cultural heritage.
Over the past two years, several schools in Fingal County have been introduced to African drumming and songs through visits to the IIMS campus. These interactions have helped students understand African cultural nuances, promoting togetherness and wellbeing. The upcoming events will continue to engage students and community youth group participants, and include an Artistic Cultural Dialogue-Mentoring Session in October 2024. This session will involve a Drum Circle Carnival Workshop led by IIMS and a Migrants Well-being Talk Session led by AFSAI, focusing on the well-being of migrants and the importance of cultural understanding.
The project will culminate with the Umoja Concert-Performance, a special event marking Fingal Inclusion Week. This concert will showcase the collaborative efforts and talents of the participants, celebrating African cultural heritage and promoting inclusivity within the community.
Date of Umoja Concert-Performance TBC.
