Coastal Connections: Engaging Communities and Inspiring Change through Coastal art and awareness
Proposed Project Activities & Schedule:
June:
3 x Print Workshops and beach exhibition led by local visual artist Bernie Colhoun.
These workshops will engage participants in beach walks and clean-ups to observe and sketch local beach flora and fauna. Participants will then learn how to translate their sketches into lino prints on paper and textiles, using eco-friendly printing techniques at the local art studio ‘Facets Studio’ run by Bernie Colhoun.
The textile prints will then be exhibited at the beach as flags, transforming the shoreline into a temporary outdoor art gallery. Visitors to the beach will have the opportunity to learn about local flora ecosystems while enjoying the artistic creations inspired by them. This hands-on experience will foster a deeper connection to the natural environment and demonstrate how art can be used to promote environmental awareness.
Artist Bernie Colhoun and Gallery Owner Noel Feeney along with the support of Enniscrone Tidy Towns & Clean Coasts group propose a creative project called ‘Coastal Connections’ that combines community engagement, environmental stewardship, and artistic expression. This project came about through conversations with local visual artist Bernie Colhoun, Abhainn Studio owner Noel Feeney and Michael Breen Chairperson of Enniscrone Tidy Towns about how we could create a summer programme of activities for the local and visiting communities to our beach town over June, July and August.
