Featuring the ‘Big Dig’ from the School of Irish Archaeology, a mobile archaeological excavation. The excavation offers children an opportunity to experience what it is like to be an archaeologist by learning how to excavate the remains of a Viking house. Slots to take part will be available to book on the day, suitable for Children aged 5 – 12.

Ancient Music Ireland will also be with us for the day, bringing with them their extensive collection of musical instruments, from Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age and into Early Medieval times. Visitors will be able to see the collection and talk to Simon and Maria of Ancient Music Ireland, and also listen to the instruments being played – musical performances will be at set times on the day.

Visitors will also be able to see the museum’s archaeology and medieval galleries and talk to the museum team about some of Cavan’s famous archaeological finds.
