2024 sees the 1500th anniversary of St. Brigid’s death. 

Her cultural resurgence with the new national bank holiday has put this warrior saint at the forefront of the Irish imagination once again, yet those of us connected with the Brigidine sisters and their convent in Mountrath, have always known that this woman - saint, goddess, healer, teacher - was someone to be celebrated. She has been an integral part of all our histories and an inspiration for so long, and now, she is part of the future of the Mountrath and the surrounding areas so it seems only right to celebrate that heritage in this important year. 

In light of this, the inaugural Brigid in Bloom Festival will be held as part of National Heritage Week 2024. 

Over Thursday and Friday, August 22nd and 23rd, A celebration of Brigid, and all things Brigidine, will take place at Bloom HQ, bringing a community together to celebrate not only the woman herself, but the women who have passed through the doors of her Mountrath centre of learning over the past 200 years.
