“Puppets in July” will bring the magic of puppetry to new audiences in dlr LexIcon, Dún Laoghaire this summer.

A lively programme is planned over three weekends in July with a mix of Irish puppeteers and puppeteers visiting from Bulgaria, Spain and Italy. It includes Allegro Vivace brought to us by the Bulgarian Varna State Puppet Theatre. Mamulengo puppetry from Trapusteros Teatro visiting us from Spain with a type of puppet performance popular in North East Brazil. Gianlucca di Matteo brings his traditional Neapolitan puppet show: “Le Guarattelle di Pulcinella.”

dlr LexIcon will showcase some of the best known Irish puppeteers that work to keep the beautiful art of puppetry alive. Julie Rose Mc Cormick, Sinead Lynch, Your Man's Puppets, Puca Puppets, Marie Denham, Margot Jones and Sacha Burette and more will bring their unique puppetry and shadow puppetry to enliven our library spaces! Shows include two special interactive shows for children, a light-and-shadow story of the legend of Grainne Mhaille, an adaptation of Shakespeare's Midsummer Night's Dream and a screening of some of the best puppet short films by female creators across the world. 

These wonderful events will bring dlr LexIcon alive via the engaging and ancient art of storytelling through puppetry. Alongside puppet shows we look forward to hosting two talks on the history of puppetry, a puppetry workshop and a unique exhibition of Burmese Puppets.
