Art and the Archive

To coincide with International Archives Week in June 2024, Cork City and County Archives will run a workshop to encourage more artists, writers, musicians, and other creative practitioners to use and explore archives as a resource and inspiration for their creative endeavours.

10 participants who work in a broad spectrum of media will be invited to take part in an intimate, hands-on workshop. Interesting material from various archive collections in the research room in Blackpool will be introduced, with archivists on hand to guide the participants through exploring and handling the material and to encourage plenty of discussion and questions.

This event will also include talks by Brian Mac Domhnaill, Director of Lavit Gallery, Cork, about his experience of using the collections in Cork City and County Archives for his own artwork, and Tom Spalding, a local historian and very experienced user of the archive collections.
