Journey Through Time on Fraochan Sunday

Join Us for a Journey Through Time on Fraochan Sunday

Step into a world where ancient customs breathe life into our modern days. Tory Hill beckons, a verdant beacon of tradition, as we revive the cherished ritual of Fraochan Sunday. Once a fading ember, this tradition now glows brightly, thanks to the passionate efforts of the South Kilkenny Historical Society and the local community.

A Tradition Rekindled In 2014, a collective spirit emerged to rekindle the flames of this age-old custom. Together, we climbed, we celebrated, and we remembered. Even the shadow of Covid-19 couldn’t extinguish our resolve, and in 2023, we soared to new heights with Michael Fortune of Folklore.ie, whose tales and teachings added depth to our shared heritage.

The Torch Passes to a New Beacon This year, we anticipate the insights of Michael Gibbons from Archaeology Travel, who will illuminate the path walked by our ancestors. It’s not just an event; it’s a communal tapestry woven with the threads of stories, memories, and hopes.

If Tory Hill whispers tales of yesteryears to you, come forth and add your voice to the chorus of history.

Whether you’re a local history aficionado or new to the area, there’s a spark of knowledge waiting for you.

Meet at: 8VMP X3 Bigwood Church. Meeting at the car park at the bottom of Tory hill for 2pm.

Booking is not necessary.  Wear walking shoes and prepare for the rain. Provisions such as snacks and food if required for example a sandwich.
