Sensory Sculptures
The aim of the project is to create a safe and nurturing environment where autistic children, teenagers and young adults with Autism and Intellectual Disability can explore their creativity to the fullest. We aim to provide them with opportunities to learn new skills, participate in group and individual activities, while exploring different materials to express themselves. Our focus is to encourage them to engage in a creative process that enables them to express themselves freely and discover something new.
This project aims to help autistic children, teenagers and young adults develop their creativity by engaging them in a series of workshops where they will create sensory sculptures using natural materials. These sculptures will be added to the sensory garden to blow in the wind. Using the wind as a medium they will induce sensory stimulation through a variety of visual and auditory ways. The sculptures will be as varied as the sensory needs of the children making them.
The children will thus, not only feel a sense of pride having created something beautiful, but they will have sensory enjoyment, satisfaction and stimulation from watching the sculpture blow in the wind or hearing the chimes and bells ring. By involving the children in all stages of the project, the aim is to bring creativity into their lives and provide them with a sense of inclusion.
