Athlone Castle’s Historical Garden– Sowing Seeds of Sustainable Heritage
Athlone Castle collaborates with children involved with Athlone Family Resource Centre to create a historical garden focused on the importance of sustainable gardening & preservation of pollinators.
Athlone Castle will collaborate with underprivileged children and young adults from Athlone facilitated by Athlone Family Resource Centre. Local watercolour artist Nataliia Bobak will guide children during the project with support from Westcountry Willows and Athlone Landscaping Ltd.
This project aims to foster the local community's creativity with gardening techniques and the art of herbology of the past to raise awareness of climate change and the need for more sustainable approaches using natural resources. The Historical Garden at Athlone Castle will become an excellent resource for lifelong learning with the potential for talks, demonstrations, workshops, recordings and publications. Progress updates will be accessible to all from our social media platforms.
This project allows Athlone Castle to engage creatively with local youth in an essential social, environmental, educational, and heritage context while providing sustenance & shelter for pollinators.
