Are You Well? is a creative arts project linking heritage, art making and community, led by artist Marie Brett working with researcher Amanda Clarke and a multi-generational and multi-cultural community of interest. The project celebrates holy well heritage sites and asks the question - what role can Irish holy wells play in keeping people healthy and well thoughout Ireland?
The project spans March to November 2024, and includes a series of free community workshops where Amanda and Marie will gather shared stories, folkore, photographs and healing water associations, together with newly made poems and crafted items. Singersongwriter and musician Maija Sofia Mäkelä will craft a new song inspired by these materials. And a final celebratory event, combining song, performance and a visual installation, will take place in Millstreet’s Tubrid Well on Culture Night, Friday 20 September 2024.
Are You Well? is based in Millstreet, and stretches to further parts of County Cork. As a nonsectarian project, all county cork residents are invited to participate. A core aim of the art project is to bring people together to think about humanity, healing, land access, and the influential role Ireland’s holy wells can play in our future wellness.
