Will It Be a Kind God?
Mark Smyth is an award-winning film & TV commercials writer/director. He started in the industry as an editor in 2009 on the TG4 TV series ‘Rasai na Gaillimhe’ & has worked on numerous productions in Ireland, Canada & the UK including work with ITV, UTV Ireland & RTÉ. He has written/directed/edited several multi award winning short films funded by RTÉ, Filmbase, The Galway Film Centre and Film Limerick. Two of his films have been broadcast on national television & he has been nominated for the ‘Emerging Directors Awards’ three times in 2018, 2019 & 2020.
Jonathan Farrelly was the director & a creator of the show ‘First World Problems’ for RTE & was shortlisted for the ‘Ones To Watch’ at the Edinburgh TV Festival for his work in writing and development. Jonathan formerly worked with BBC Northern Ireland & has also worked on TV shows for Channel 4, BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Four, RTE, TV3 and Sky One. Jonathan was a participant at the Celtic Media Festival, the Junior Entertainment Talent Slate 2018 and 2019, the European TV Drama Lab’ at Berlinale & is a regular contributor to Doc.& Drama on Newstalk.
Previous shorts include Leap of Faith and The Bridge.
Will It Be a Kind God? is a science fiction film set in an alternate time and the aftermath of a World War. A brooding and thrilling piece it centres around main character Conchobar exploring themes of isolation, family and betrayal. 'Will it be a Kind God?' will be shot entirely on location in Meath in late 2024.
