The Kinship Project 2023
The KinShip Project is a durational public artwork at Tramore Valley Park led by artists Marilyn Lennon and Sean Taylor in partnership with Cork City Council, supported through Creative Ireland’s Creative Climate Action Fund. In 2023 the project’s focus is threefold:
- To deepen the reach within local communities surrounding Tramore Valley Park. Artist Chelsea Canavan was commissioned in 2022 to engage with local communities via schools, libraries and residents’ associations on an interspecies flag design process. The intention is to co-create a flag that will be flown in the park to highlight biodiversity matters and critically engaged with the concept of kinship.
- To develop an inclusive, manageable governance structure via a collective Visioning Process.
- To programme stimulating activities that respond to the priorities identified in the evaluation process in 2022. The completion of The KinShip EcoLab is a priority so that it will be available for future activities coordinated by local community groups. Some artists placements are ongoing, and outcomes will be presented during a symposium to coincide with an exhibition at the MTU James Barry Exhibition Centre in Autumn 2023.
