Galway’s Great Read is an annual programme of events developed and hosted by Galway Public Libraries, each November.

​In 2023 GGR will host a captivating series of talks, exhibitions, recitals and a music residency that delves into the creative genres of music, storytelling and song which are deeply engrained in our culture, our arts, our heritage and our Irish language. 

The series of free events will be hosted by our branch libraries throughout the county in Gort, Ballinasloe, Tuam, Carraroe, Loughrea & Oughterard​. They will concentrate on song collecting in North Galway; the musical traditions of South Galway; Sean nós singing from our Gaeltacht areas; storytelling from Connemara and a residency in popular music in East Galway.

The residencies will take place in October with performances in November.
