WHO AM I? SENSE OF SELF IN MY COMMUNITY
Through this project we want to foster and nourish a ‘sense of self’ and place in community.
The Brothers of Charity Service in Casla working with 15 people & their families across rural Connemara who have an Intellectual disability will work with local artist Nuala Ní Fhlathuin to create an exhibition of photography and other mixed media to showcase their work. Through this project they aim to foster and nourish a ‘sense of self’ and place in community. Working with an experienced artist they will visit each person’s home, gathering stories, photographs and personal collected items which will form part of their individual exhibitions. Each person’s unique exhibition will reflect their own story and connect in to their local natural resources, their relationship & respect for animals on the land, their use of the sea for livelihoods and travel and their language. Each family’s story of their sense of place will be collected and included in the final exhibition alongside portraits.
