'Soil is not Dirt'

The application meets the Climate Biodiversity and Environment priority as soil as a living ecosystem and its possible sounds/melodies will be explored by this unique Sligo creative partnership consisting of The Soil Collective, Stephanie Pawula and 40+ Sligo based children and families.

The Soil Collective was formed in 2023 and consists of a dynamic trio including soil scientist Dr Agniezka Piwowarczyk, Forest School Educator and owner of Sligo Woodland School Trisha MacLaughlin and early years lecturer, researcher and artist Jackie Maguire. The Soil Collective brings together three women who are passionate about soil, the arts and young children.  We are a not for profit community group who wish to share our knowledge of soil with children, families and the wider community.  Soils are a fundamental part of our everyday life. They provide food, oxygen to breath, clean water to drink and the entire infrastructure around us. Soils create a habitat not only for us humans but for all other living beings.  The Soil Collective trio (Dr Aga, Trisha and Jackie) first met in 2022 at Sligo Woodland School at a soil workshop for children and families that Dr Aga was delivering. Sligo Woodland school is located in Cleveragh Demesne, consisting of 7 acres of open green space/woodland.  This area is shared with Sligo LETS Organic Farm & Garden and Sligo Children's Community Garden.
