Sightless Cinema Network

Sightless Cinema by theatre-maker Ciarán Taylor, adapts theatre devising techniques for the collaborative creation of audio theatre with people with sight loss. Groups meet over 6 to 9 months to devise, perform and record plays. It offers high quality collaboration opportunities, and professional production for public presentations at surround sound listening events in theatres and cinemas, which include live performances. It builds demand for disability arts provision and helps break barriers to participation.

The newly established Sightless Cinema Network is a collaboration between South Dublin, Meath and Laois County Council Arts Offices, and theatre artist Ciarán Taylor, in partnership with Solstice Arts Centre, Dunamaise Arts Centre and The Civic Theatre, with the National Council of the Blind of Ireland.

It is funded by The Arts Council and local partners to extend the 25 week programme, to County Laois; and in collaboration with existing South Dublin and Meath groups train two skilled artists and a sound technician in Sightless Cinema methods and facilitation with blind groups; and to pilot opportunities for exchange and collaboration among participants across counties.

The collaboration between counties includes participant exchange meetings, and touring a combined programme of the the three groups to partner venues Solstice, Dunamaise, and Civic Theatre Tallaght in November 2023.
