On The Street Where I Live

On the Street Where I Live is a writing project aimed at children encouraging curiosity about their street, estate, neighbourhood, or townland and showcasing the resources available in Waterford Libraries and online (via www.waterfordlibraries.ie) to find out more about the history of their area.

This project will run from Ardkeen Library Waterford and will enable local schools and teachers to find out more about the resources available for teaching and learning about Waterford history and Irish history through the excellent records and collections of Waterford Libraries. The library will collaborate with The Waterford Civic Trust to run a school workshop telling children about the history of the place in which they live and help them come up with ideas to write about in their essays.

The children’s finished essays will be published in a special booklet.

A launch for this booklet will be take place in Ardkeen Library in December 2023 as part of Family Time at your Library and a copy of the booklet will be available to borrow in all branches of Waterford Libraries.

This project will run in partnership with Waterford Civic Trust with local Waterford schools.
