Connecting through Craft  @The Leitrim Design House

Connecting through Craft is an ongoing series of 12 textile workshops led by experienced textile artist Catherine Gray. Catherine is working with the Ukrainian community living in the region to offer the opportunity for self-expression and to connect with other individuals through craft.These allow this community to explore their own creativity and communicate fluidly through a visual language. Participants are encouraged to bring in their own fabrics or materials that have personal meaning from their culture that tell their own unique story.

The theme of the project will be developed in collaboration with the participants allowing their own voice to shine through. We envisage the textile works will come alive through the hand stitching process where words from the languages of the participants may be added as an additional element of expression.

It is envisaged that each participant will create their own individual piece of textile work and also contribute to a larger piece made together with the whole group. The end results will be exhibited in The Leitrim Design House with a reception launch to celebrate the work with this community, taking place on Friday September 22nd Culture night 2023 at 6pm.
