Our proposed project is to creatively engage with four Sligo based older groups. Our project theme will be based around the word Local. Dictionary definition local: existing in or belonging to the area where you live. The project intends to use creative activity to encourage meaningful social interactions and give older people the opportunity to feel part of a community. Our project is a collaborative creative project between four Sligo practice based artists and older people in our community. The link between artists and older people involved in the project is sewn together via the theme ‘local’. The theme local will help connect with older members of the community as it is something that all can relate to. It is also a good starting point for both artists and older persons to explore together. Creative sessions – a series of workshops between project artists and older individuals/groups. These workshops build towards the creation of original artwork based on the theme of ‘Local’, i.e. poems, stories and visual material etc, which will be showcased through and end of project exhibition at City Hall. The project artists will incorporate multiple arts-based approaches to cater to different needs and interests of the older individuals/ groups they are linked with. Each participating artist brings their own set of specialist skills to the project. The emphasis for the project will be the importance of collaboration between older project participants and project artist.
