Street Sculpture for Schools
Street Sculpture for Schools is an interactive art and spectacle project, where internationally renowned artist Tom Campbell facilitates the creation of life-sized papier-mâché dog sculptures.
This intensive workshop is done with and for the community (in this case Mounthawk Secondary School Transition Year students) where participants learn to build their dog sculptures using recycled materials.
This transferrable skill as an art technique can be applied to the creation of other art projects in the future for these participants, ensuring a long-term creative legacy aspect to our proposal. Once finished, the sculptures are displayed in an arts setting and are also taken for a walk by their new owners, placing them in different formations on the streets of Tralee.
Seven days of workshops will be be facilitated in Mounthawk Secondary School with whom the National Circus Festival Of Ireland. The focus will be on students understanding, practising and fully engaging with the artistic process from idea generation, early sketching stages, right through all the various stages of a multi layered hands on creation such as this to the final exhibition and presentation step.
