The main intention behind this project is to capture the sounds of Limerick, with a musical collection (album) to be composed in collaboration with or in response to these sounds. 

Recording and Creation Phase

Field recordings of Limerick City will be captured to be later arranged and processed in Paddy Mulcahy's studio. Musical content deriving from his unique approach to the composition of electronic ambient music will be used to accompany these field recordings, and give them a character in the soundspace.

Event / Presentation Phase

The prospect of presenting DIALECTS to a live audience in Limerick City is essential to the completion of the project. The original field recordings will be played back live with music to be performed live, in a similar fashion to the creation stage of the project. 

Paddy is eager to explore the presentation of visuals taken from each recording location to further immerse the audience in the musical and sound experience. The intention here in relation to the visuals is to capture video of each location in an abstract manner, which will be projected during the musical performance.

This event/presentation stage will be organised during the final creation phase towards the end of 2023.

Dialects launches on Friday 1st December at 8pm in Spacecraft Studios, Mungret St, Limerick City.

The installation will also run all day on Saturday 2nd December from 10am - 8pm.
